The scoop on threesomes

By | August 1, 2016

Don’t say you’ve never thought about it. Over half of us either want to have a threesome, or would be willing to go along with one if our partner was keen. Even of those not actively wanting a threesome, there’s a good chance that the idea still holds an allure, albeit strictly as fantasy. So with that scene set, how many of us have actually gone through with this? Are threesomes typically with other men or with other women? What characteristics are common to couples participating in threesomes?

Let’s begin with prevalence: 15% of people¬†surveyed on Noone’s Normal report having had a threesome with their current partner, and a further 7% have had threesomes in previous relationships. Don’t take this to mean that there are a dozen threesomes happening on your street right now though…only a small fraction of couples reported having a threesome in the last week, with most saying that they last had one over a year ago. Woman are more in demand for this activity. As shown in the chart below, more people have threesomes with another woman than with another man.

Naturally, there are more couples that want a threesome than those that have actually had one, as data from Testing the Waters shows.. In over 25% of couples, both the man and woman said that they would like a threesome with another man. From the chart above, we know that only 15% have actually had a threesome with another man, so the remaining 10% of couples are either out there looking, or are not aware that their partner feels the same way.

It’s no surprise that men tend to be even more keen on bringing another woman into the mix, with over half of men wanting to try it. Women’s interest in another woman was similar to their interest in another man, at 33%. As a result, there are about 30% of couples in which both the man and woman want to try a threesome with another woman, and as you’ll see in the chart below, this leaves a lot of unfortunate men. Some advice if you’re one of these men: consider doing some¬†housework. More on that later!

Couples who want or have had a threesome tend to have a few other attributes in common. Some of these are obvious: the guy typically wants to watch the girl kissing another girl, and similarly, the girl wants to kiss another girl. This holds true regardless of whether they want a threesome with another girl or another guy. Men who want threesomes also tend to like it when the woman dresses provocatively in public, which makes a degree of sense, since that will help you get a threesome in the first place!

Some other correlations are perhaps less obvious. Couples in which the man sometimes comes over the woman’s face are also more likely to have threesomes. So are couples in which the woman tends to swallow after a blowjob. If these both sound degrading to woman, the final statistic reverses that: couples in which the woman has given the man a golden shower are also more likely to have had a threesome. All of these statistics hold true whether we are talking about a threesome with another man, or with another woman.

Finally, as mentioned above, the man would be advised to do more housework (or the woman less). Relationships in which the man does the most housework are significantly more likely to have experienced a threesome, particularly with another woman. Correlation may not guarantee causation, but at least from the woman’s perspective, it’s worth the benefit of the doubt!
