Golden showers: The truth we don’t dare tell

By | July 1, 2016

Golden showers are a topic many of us are afraid to broach. The website Couples Truth or Dare lets users rate truths and dares as being “too easy” or “too extreme”. By quite a significant margin, the truth question considered most extreme is: Have you ever had or given a golden shower? Do you think you might one day want to? Clearly, golden showers are a taboo topic for many to even discuss.

About 13% of couples surveyed in Noone’s Normal have had or given a golden shower in their current relationship. This makes it about as common as threesomes, but far less common than sex toys, public flashing, anal sex, or bondage. The number may be higher once previous relationships are taken into account, but it is still likely to be a fairly rare occurrence.

About half of those who report having a golden shower have done it within the last month, making it slightly more frequent than anal sex for those couple that actually do it. It is slightly more common for the woman to give the man a golden shower than the reverse.

Is this taboo topic something many of us are secretly interested in? Yes! Testing the Waters tell us that in 14% of couples, both the man and the woman want to try a golden shower. Moreover, in a further 8% of couples, one person wants to try it, and the other is neutral to the idea. This means that there are 22% of couples out there that should be having golden showers, compared to the 13% that actually are.

GS3

Men and women in a relationship are usually aligned on this topic. As a guy, if you want to experiment with golden showers, there is a 70% chance that your partner does too (even though, overall, only 23% of girls are interested). Similarly, if a girl is interested in golden showers, there is an 80% chance that her partner will be into it to. So while propensity for golden showers probably didn’t come up on your first date, we do have a tendency for attracting like-minded people in this regard, meaning that perhaps people shouldn’t have been so nervous about the original truth question after all.
